COVID-19 and wellbeing of students in Tecmilenio University (#117)

Background

 

Positive education contributes to the wellbeing of students. At Universidad Tecmilenio there is an Ecosystem of Wellbeing and Happiness based on the PERMA model and strengths of character. In 2020, starting in March, a health crisis was declared due to the pandemic generated by COVID-19.

Hypotheses/Research Questions

 

Given the above, the following research question arises, What is the effect of COVID-19 on the wellbeing of students at Universidad Tecmilenio?

Sample Characteristics and Sample Size

 

The sample was made up of more than seven thousand students in high school and college in 2019 and more than two thousand in 2020.

Design

 

To answer the research question, the PERMA Profiler questionnaire, developed by (Butler & Kern, 2016) is used. Which considers the five dimensions of wellbeing proposed by (Seligman, 2012): positive emotions, involvement, positive relationships, meaning and achievement.

Results

 

The results show that the students had a moderate impact on various components of wellbeing due to the health contingency.

Scientific Contribution

 

The study shows that positive education in college allows students better wellness skills that allows them to better deal with adversities such as the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
