Karen K Melton
Karen K. Melton, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Human Sciences & Design at Baylor University. She is the first scholar to identify that different types of group activities stimulate varying levels of oxytocin—thus, providing initial evidence that leisure is a causal facilitator of social connection. Her research focuses on identifying the behavioral and environmental mechanisms during group activities that facilitate social connectedness. Her theoretical works include the Family Activity Model and Ecology of Family Experiences.
