Background
Mindfulness-Based Positive Intervention (MBPP) is one of Second-Generation Mindfulness-Based Interventions (SG-MBIs). Compared to traditional Mindfulness-Based Interventions, SG-MBIs emerged some ethics in meditation training sessions to cultivate a lifestyle but not only teach mental skills, which has been proved to have effects in some researches. In this intervention, we emerged some positive psychology aiming to improve gratitude and appreciative joy.
Hypotheses/Research Questions
MBPP could improve people's gratitude and appreciative joy, and the improvement got positive correlation with the amount of meditation practice.
Sample Characteristics and Sample Size
Recruited 138 Chinese healthy adults including university students and staff, and community members.
Design
All the participants finished pre-test before intervention, and were advocated to intervention group and waitlist group randomly. After that, participants in intervention group got a 6-week intervention, in which they needed to take part in a 2.5 hours session weekly and practice meditation at home at least 5 times a week, while participants in waitlist group waited. During the intervention, participants of both of two groups finished measurements biweekly. And after the intervention, they completed post-test in a week and follow-up in 3 months.
Results
The 2(Time) × 2(Conditions) MANOVA didn't find significant interactions both in gratitude and appreciative joy at post-test and follow-up (ps > .347). However, the correlation analysis found there was significant correlation between change of some dimensions of gratitude/appreciative joy and the amount of meditation.
Scientific Contribution
Clarifying the impact on positive traits from SG-MBIs among Chinese firstly.
Compared to teaching ethics, it impacts more with positive activities like meditation to improve positive traits.
