Arts Amplifying Youth! - a movement created for youth by youth to amplify the voices of this generation to identify and acknowledge issues that directly impact youth. Marginalized, homeless, and youth in the foster care system were particularly challenged as pandemic-related mandates issued social distancing requirements in a community that already felt ostracized. The youth changed their narrative by claiming space for their voices to be heard and redefined the need as physical distancing - keeping their community of youth leaders socially connected through weekly zoom calls to plan the annual youth summit for community youth. AAY! Youth leaders were determined to create a summit to meet the needs of community youth (ages 12-24) who were experiencing increased isolation, depression, loneliness, and anxiety due to the pandemic. Together, the AAY! Leaders (n = 15) created the 2020 Youth Summit under the theme of Common Unity. Thirty youth between the ages of 12-24 attended the Summit at the Writerz Block in San Diego, CA. Temperatures were taken for each participant, socially distanced spaces were established in the outdoor venue where masked youth engaged in workshops created by their peers to run obstacle courses where the obstacles were named by the participants, reminding them of what they had overcome during the pandemic. Cupcake decorating stations were designed to engage youth in decorating cupcakes where each color of frosting represented an emotion they had to overpower during their pandemic isolation, culminating in a fantastic cupcake wall where youth hurled their decorated cupcake creating a massive mosaic of colorful icing and cake. The session will engage the audience in a virtual interactive workshop experience conducted by a youth leader from the AAY! 2020 Youth Summit designed to increase wellbeing in marginalized youth populations.
